Java / Maven developer - PKIX path validation failure

We are running Maven from a client VM machine and hitting the issue below. We are trying this for the first time.

Issue:

[ERROR] The project com.xxxxxxxx:vm-java-service-template:0.0.1-SNAPSHOT (D:\gitrepos\Java_11_Ms\vm-java-service-template\pom.xml) has 1 error
